October Mailbag 10/29/09

Yes, the unemployment extension is finally moving, albeit very slowly, and Reid and McConnell are still dickin’ back and forth with each other; it will pass, but—and this is a big but—we still don’t know if Nevada will require the hard copy mail-in like they did last time.
That was the stupidest, most wasteful, time consuming, time delaying requirement given all of these people are already on the NVDETR on-line system here!
Sen Reid’s staff, any comment at all on what they can expect this time? Do you even know…or care?
The last extension was passed on 2/13/2009, and NV recipients waited weeks and weeks for their retroactive benefits; this time around it won’t be retroactive.
It took over a month to get that outlay into the NVDETR systems, for Nevada to print those forms, mail ‘em out, and get people their benefits, so you’re probably looking at Christmas/New Years before you see a dime.
Tomorrow is Halloween.
Then we’ll be back again in spring, so hopefully Harry Reid’s people will get the ball rolling about 6-8 weeks before people exhaust this new round.

Despair is everywhere in Nevada as more than 300,000+ of our fellow citizens are really hurting out there and we’re #2 in unemployment. Dem response? It’s like they don’t even know what’s going on out there!
I fully agree this is outrageous, but there’s nothing we can do if our own elected Dem officials don’t care! This bill was born on September 10th and you’re looking at Christmas-time because you’re not a big corporate concern the party cares about.
The bailed out, failed out banks, had their money in about 24 hours with lines of credit and electronic transfers.
Yet another reason the tin-eared and clueless Sen Harry Reid will be defeated next year.
Keep this in mind when you vote in 2010.

Yes, Nevada OSHA is one of the 27 states allowed to handle their own OSHA and that’s why it’s such a crappy organization. It’s loaded with political hacks and appointees who don’t know a damn thing about workplace safety and because they’re all hacks and appointees, they’re always going to defer to their big business patrons.
We have to demand that federal OSHA take over Nevada OSHA if we want any chance at real reform and workplace safety because no one in Nevada gives a damn.
They’re just putting on a show now pretending they really care because the spotlight is on them, but maybe things will change:

You can tell by our union locals’ reaction. They could have demanded a fed OSHA here long ago, but they don’t give a damn either… they don’t want higher standards here either, because that will cost them big money too!
So union folks, ask your overpaid, fat-cat brass why they haven’t demanded a fed takeover of Nevada OSHA. We have a Dem Prez, the SML, Congress; they can order it if they really wanted it, but your friend Sen Harry Reid does not want to upset his corporate owners, and your union brass doesn’t want to upset the SML…so yes, more people will die at jobsites in Nevada.

No, there’s no credible confirmation (yet) that Rory Reid’s people were recently seen at the RJC filing a legal name change from Rory Reid to Rory Lipshitz, but we’re tracking the rumors here at WatchDogWag Worldwide. Yes, it would be more of a horse race if he had a different surname.

Trick or Treats: No, I’m not a big Halloween person but I like the little kids. Many are expected to dress up like Harry Reid this year, and I’ve been saving all of my ketchup, mustard, Sweet and Low, and Splenda packets all year to give out to the little ones!
A Halloween handout fave at my house every year! The kids love it!

Yep, Levi is doing Playgirl. We were in the right church, but the wrong pew a few months ago. We told you he would be doing gay porn and maybe he’ll do that too!

Yes, the ‘Birth Tax’ slam was created by Dems under Bush43, but is no longer used by Dems since they’re in power. Regardless, we have averaged almost 4 billion dollars per day in deficit spending since 2007, with no end in sight, and yes, just today, the US Senate approved an Appropriation bill increasing government spending by over 15%!
Inflation this year is minus -1.30%! Yes, that’s minus!
Of course we need Fed Term Limits and the Line-Item Veto…desperately!

Dem dude Robert Randazzo, a successful biz guy running for Lt Gov from the Northlands, may have a Hollywood opponent!
Dem LT Gov hopeful Robert Randazzo gets an opponent?: We’ve discussed my former Bravo addiction, now that Millionaire Matchmaker dude from Bravo last year, Paul Murad, is considering a run against Robert Randazzo as a Dem for Lt Gov.
I hated Patti’s guts and she cured me of my Bravo addiction; I’ve never tuned in since!
I hope he doesn’t jilt us like he did that chick he proposed to on the show!
Maybe he should call Levi’s people about getting into Playgirl. That would make next year’s boring primary much more interesting!

Yes, I was at home recently and happened to have CSPAN on because I am a political geek, and there were our House leaders, passing a resolution (H Res 784) commemorating Confucius’ birthday…but he died in 479 BC; 2488 years ago!!!

Confucius, called ‘Connie’ by his golfing buddies, got a US House fist-pump Happy Birthday! recently, despite his having died 2488 years ago!
Ever wonder why nothing gets done in DC? Log into OpenCongress.org and check how they spend all day long passing congratulatory resolutions to each other and patting each other on the back.

I agree that Steve Wynn popping off about Obama has more to do with his divorce and Mrs Wynn being an Obama gal, but in the world of unintended consequences, 100% of Team Obama is reading Wynn’s attacks as coming right out of Harry Reid’s mouth.

Sure we’ll revisit CityCenter when it opens and I have no doubt that the interiors will be very nice, but that doesn’t change the fact that the exteriors are a visual catastrophe, there’s too much packed on too small a parcel, and that CityCenter will cannibalize its own and other resorts. US Airways cutting half their flights will also affect their bottom-line and that’s why they’re really down-playing expectations. Right after New Years, expect a huge round of lay-offs and other employees placed on on-call status across the MGM-Mirage properties.

Sedera Files: Yes, if he owes you money, or if he just walked away from his obligations like he did with millions of other people’s dollars, the creditor’s meeting is at Barry Levinson’s office next week; hurry up, call him and take a number: 702.836.9696.
Yes, con-artist cad, Darkara Sanjeewa Sedera, apparently conned his now ex-wife into selling/giving him his ‘new’ home at 1413 Strike Jumper in Las Vegas, but that was on July 15, 2009, and then he turned around and filed Chapter 7 on September 18, 2009 and is trying to protect that as his homestead.

Here’s some of the bankruptcy filing too:

Sanje Sedera: Wealthy women beware! Run like hell too!
Sanje loves playing gigolo to older women of means as both his now ex-wife and his current lover, Shreela Chakmian, are older than him…and were wealthier when he met them!

Sayeth Sai Baba, who has had legal troubles all over the world and accusations of ‘genital oiling’ of young men, is seen here in an orange YSL evening gown, some guy playing with his toes, and a Dr Angela Davis, circa 1971 afro.
Sanje Sedera worships this guy because of his success in conning people the world over.
Yes, Sedera’s phony charity scams are inspired by this guy he worships and who he had built a shrine to in his office.

Yep, the NJ & VA Gov races on 11/3 have everyone’s attention. The White House is hoping for at least a split and losing both will have a negative psychological effect. We’ll have to wait for the returns to see if the undecideds break for the party out of power as has been the case historically.

No, I’m not a fan of Joint Operating Agreements amongst local papers because they haven’t been a success around the country and the paper in the superior position (R-J) seems to always win out in the end by suffocating the subordinate paper (LV Sun) out of business; call it Media Darwinism.
With the R-J taking 90% of the ‘profits’ in their agreement with the LV Sun, and with the R-J’s ad revenue in the toilet, there’s not a whole lot of money coming in. It’s perhaps the worst JOA ever signed in the newspaper business for the subordinate Sun.
The closing of LasVegasOne’s newscast and the GMG suburban papers in the same breath, all rolls into the same perception for the gossipy media industry and the general public: Everyone thinks the Greenspun family is going to have to make some big changes, and yes, that could include shutting down the Las Vegas Sun.
With the JOA, the R-J controls the bat, the ball, the bleachers, the hot dog stand, and everything else, and when there’s little money coming in, they can better weather the storm; the Sun cannot.

Yes, I would have immediately relieved General McCrystal of his command for what I do consider his public insubordination regarding Afghanistan. VP Biden is right on this one too and the General should not be giving public ultimatums to his commander; it makes President Obama look weaker with each passing day of indecision. We’re at about six weeks of vacillation now and that’s not good. That weakness will expedite the expected attack on our interests and I’d look for one of our embassies to be leveled before the 2010 election.
Yes, VP Biden’s approach is the correct one.

Yes, I would support a public/private toll road that would directly link Reno and Las Vegas, over an Interstate—we remain the only state of the lower 48 without a direct Interstate connecting our two largest population centers—but these turnpike/tollway concepts don’t seem to get too much traction out here because they’re illegal in Nevada.
And Rory is wrong, as all politicians are when they base their entire campaigns on ‘jobs’, because who doesn’t support more jobs?
It’s infrastructure that creates those jobs, and Nevada’s is very poor. Create infrastructure and the private-sector jobs naturally follow.

Yes, I did give permission to Chuck Muth to run my stuff if he wanted to and he can edit for space, but not content which is standard. I have no problems with Chuckles, he makes me laugh and is a pretty funny guy with a wicked sense of humor!
It’s all OK with me…we’re all about getting people to think about what’s going on around them and why, and as in the ‘What is….’ at the top of the home page, that includes everyone.

Yes, the damage the Dem Assembly and Senate caucuses have done to the partisan workhorses is disgraceful in the lead up to the most important election of the decade. It only served to tear the state party apart and open up a wide chasm of discontent.
Stop enabling them with your votes!: They do as they please because they know you will touch for the Dem regardless of what they do to you…and your interests.
Stop doing that and flush ‘em! No one is irreplaceable and that’s why I am a lifelong supporter of term limits all across the board.

Part Two of Three: Healthcare 102 continues Sunday and now with the ‘opt-out’ seemingly secure, the budget and deficits are busted.
Even ‘gummint’ math fudging can’t help this one.
